About

Questions, answered with a straight face (mostly)

Who makes this?

Nawar. One person in Switzerland with a phone camera and an unreasonable interest in what everyday things look like from two centimetres away.

Why is it called Zoom Out?

"Stare At It Until It Makes Sense" didn't fit on the logo.

How does it work?

Every day there's one new photo, starting extremely zoomed in. Every wrong guess pulls the camera back a step: 16×, 12×, 8×, 5×, 2.5×, 1×. Name it before you run out of zooms. That's it. That's the whole game. It's harder than it sounds, which is the point.

Is it supposed to be this hard?

Yes. Well, partly. Early players said it was too easy, so the zoom got slower and the starting spots got sneakier. If it now feels too hard, I'm told that's what "character building" means.

My guess was right. Why is it yellow?

Yellow means close: you're on the right track, but the game wants the actual thing. If you're convinced your guess deserved green, email hello@zoomout.dev and plead your case. Good arguments have changed answers before. One "lamb" is now officially a goat.

Where do the photos come from?

Real life. Mostly things that were just sitting there, minding their own business, until someone got very close to them with a camera.

Can I send in a photo?

Please do. Email it to photos@zoomout.dev with what it is. Strange textures and everyday objects work best. If it makes it into the game, you get credited, and everyone gets to be confused by your kitchen.

Send us a photo

Opens your email app. Just attach the photo and press send.

When is the next photo?

At midnight, your time. Somewhere in the world it's always almost midnight, which is either comforting or stressful.

Is my streak safe?

As long as you play every day and don't clear your browser data. Your streak lives in your browser, like a small, fragile pet. Please don't feed it after midnight. Do play after midnight.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Add Zoom Out to your Discord server and play it right in a channel, and the bot can post the new photo every morning. Or just send people your result and act casual about it.

Why is it free?

Because a daily game should be. There are no ads and no accounts. Hosting and photos are paid for by tips from kind people on Ko-fi. If you'd like to be one of them: thank you. If not: also thank you, for playing.

I found a bug.

Wow. Rude, but helpful. Tell me at hello@zoomout.dev and I'll fix it.
